CITIZKXS NATIONAL RANK OF GASTONIA, By Andrew K. Moore, President. TF20c2w. A Tribnte to the Memory of the late George A. Gray. Gastonia. X. C, Feb. 20, 1912. To the Editor of The Gazette: Please permit me, through the columns of your paper, to express our sympathy and regret In tne death of the late Mr. George A. Gray. I am sure that I voice the sentiment of the colored citizens of Gastonia hen I say that we regarded him as a friend, and one interested In our success. When I first came to Gas tonia as pastor of the A. M. E. Zion Church in 1900, we wre greatly in need of a church and the membership wag smalL I solicited the aid of our white friends toward building a new church, among many that responded, Mr. Gray was the first to head tne list with forty dollars. I regarded Mr. Gray as a broad-hearted Chris tian man and one who was ever ready to kelp an honest, poor, strug gling man. Many of the colored cit izens of Gastonia recognized that spirit In him and regarded him as a friend. Mr. Joseph Vance told me that he had been in the service of -Mr. Gray for seventeen years, and during that time he had never spok en a harsh word to him. We feel that in his death the- colored citi zens also sustain a great loss.- We tend our sympathy to the bereaved family and feel that all of our loss is Heaven's gain. - II. BLAKE.
